Tips on indoor gardening

Although the art of indoor gardening is not dry climate specific, the subject is particularly relevant to us arid country gardeners, as there is often greater scope for "going to town" in doors, than out. Growing plants indoors requires adopting a number of techniques which are different from those the home gardener may be used to when working in the outdoor garden, although there are things in common between the two. Therefore, here are some general points on the subject.

Many people decorate their rooms, passages and verandah with indoor plants to make their house look special. For this you need to know the essentials of container gardening. You have to adopt some kind of method for indoor gardening. There are certain common things in both these types of gardening.

Whether you are doing indoor or outdoor gardening the principle is the same. The issues involved are simplicity, selection, size, harmony, equilibrium, and importance. Plastic containers are not good because it comes cheap. Ornamental plants for the outdoor garden add glamour to the house.

We must know the difference between an outdoor and outdoor garden. It is obvious that we select a plant which grows healthy. Plants require light from the sun, and also the synthesis of complex organic materials, esp. carbohydrates, from carbon dioxide, water, and inorganic salts to perform the basic things. Therefore, indoors plants accept low level light to grow. Outdoor plants cannot grow indoors. For this reason putting plants is vital area is carefully to be considered. Provide other sources of light to indoor plants to grow effectively.

Important requirement for plants

Water is very necessary for any plant. Equally important is that roots of plants require sufficient amount of oxygen to breathe. The correct balance between the two is an important feature. Water should not stage in such indoor plants. Therefore, a standard potting arrangement has to be made.

Indoor plant that is grown in containers or pots depends mainly on the minerals and fertilizer for their growth. Follow the tips given in the articles and magazines for proper upkeep of indoor plants grown in pots. You need to take proper care by giving the necessary nutrients and nourish the indoor plants regularly.

You have to ponder for a while to select the right plant. There is limited variety of flowering plants. It is quite difficult to maintain African violets even for a year. The easiest flower to grow is the Poinsettas which has lobed leaves and brilliant scarlet, pink, or white petal like bracts. Epiremnum Shefflera, Dracaena, Spathipyllum, Aglaonema, are some varieties of plants that provide white flowers. Ferns can be grown but they need regular watering because they are sensitive to lack of humidity due to the use of heaters and air conditioners in the house

Hydroponic system is another way to grow plants in preserved containers. Hydroponic actually means the cultivation of plants by placing the roots in liquid nutrient solutions rather than in soil; soil less growth of plants. It is an expensive method in the beginning. The maintenance by this method is absolutely little and you can go for this type of gardening for your indoor landscaping.
